Islamorada Deep Sea Fishing
Imagine being out on a charter boat, heading out to sea. You’re in a fighting chair, taking a gentle snooze in the sun when all of the sudden there’s a cry…
…fish on!
Instantly you’re awake and you grab the rod with all your might. What do you have at the end of the line? Mahi-mahi? A Wahoo? Or maybe even a billfish!
There’s no telling what you’ll find when you go Islamorada deep sea fishing on a charter boat.
Once you’ve mastered the fish and have it safely back at the dock, you don’t have the energy to cook it. Never fear — many of the local restaurants will cook your catch for you!
Reef Fishing
Maybe your wallet doesn’t allow for a pricey private charter boat. If that’s the case, why not try booking a spot on a party boat? Also called drift beats, they hang out over the reef for a few hours. Grouper and snapper are the main catches, but there are other fish on the reef as well, who might just enjoy a nibble on your bait!
Charter Fishing Islamorada
There are two main kinds of charter fishing in Islamorada, Florida — those that go out into the Atlantic Ocean, and those that ply the waters of the back country of Florida Bay.
Backcountry fishing is generally less expensive than going out in the Atlantic. For one, the waters in Florida Bay are much shallower and usually very calm. Smaller boats are more the rule here, with smaller operating costs.
Islamorada Florida fishing in the Atlantic Ocean takes a bit more robust a boat. You’ll likely need to go anywhere from 4 to 20 miles out, depending on the fish you are stalking that day. It takes awhile to get to the fishing grounds, and the Atlantic can be a bit on the finicky side at times. The seas can be calm or they can kick up!
But either way you go, when it comes to Charter fishing in Islamorada, you really can’t go wrong. The first time I had ever gone charter fishing in my life was in Islamorada, and I caught a 40-pound bull mahi-mahi (dolphin) and a 200+ pound blue marlin on that trip!
Islamorada Florida Fishing
If you are in the Keys, you really should get to Islamorada and try wetting a line here. Islamorada Florida fishing is some of the most spectacular in the world!

Fish On! Islamorada – Florida Fishing
March 12th, 2010Having the Edge Means Having the Right Sport Fishing Boat
November 24th, 2009
Sport fishing for some anglers means a hard days work and part of that work is having the right boat and that means a sport fishing charter, this is a boat that might not be used to fish from but is in the background for when the days fishing is over. This also means if extra fuel or supplies are needed to go the extra ten miles during a tournament the team has it.
The sport fishing charter is a boat filled with all the luxuries of home and without any of the work; there is a professional crew and a chef, which all equals no work for the sport fishing team. This is where at the end of the day during a tournament there is a expertly prepared meal, there is a lounge to relax and there are staterooms that are spacious and comfortable. The sport fishing charter is also the place where the team can discuss how the tournament is going and plan what they need to do during the next day’s event. The team can do this in the lounge with comfortable seating, on the deck in the fresh salt air, and then go to their staterooms for a relaxing nights sleep. This means they are fresh in the morning and ready for the day of hard fishing.
The difference is clear to see what teams have a sport fishing charter and the ones that do not during the tournament, because the team with the comfort of a yacht are relaxed, well rested and well fed. The team that does not have one are crowded into the fishing boat the entire time, they are doing all of the work of manning the boat, meals and fishing their hardest and when it is time to sleep are in a space that has little comfort. This is a team that also has to depend the fish are biting where their fuel will take them, they do not have the advantage of extra fuel out on the water during the tournament time. These factors do not add up to having a winning edge.
The sport fishing charter also means if a piece of fishing equipment is damaged or broken it can either be fixed or replaced from the yacht. This alone can mean winning or losing a tournament and the whole point of the team entering the tournament is to bring in the winning fish.
Looking at the difference it is clear to see that having the right boat can be the winning edge in these hard fought sport fishing tournaments. The winning team is most often the one that has the sport fishing charter, where they can relax, where there is no worry on the water about extra fuel and where strategy can be discussed in comfort. This is also the team that is well rested and ready to fish every day of the tournament, because they had the advantage of a comfortable and spacious place to relax after a hard day of fishing.
